
Dr Paul McCrorie
Deputy Director
Paul has 16 years’ applied research experience addressing inequalities in the built, natural and social environments, with expertise in outdoor play, nature exposure, and developmental/social/behavioural outcomes in children and young people.
Recognised internationally, Paul has led or co-led >£5m of funded research including the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), The Medical Research Council (MRC), and the Scottish Government.
Paul has worked with children and young people his entire research career, brings strong quantitative analytical skills, experienced with working with cohort datasets, measurement expertise in the assessment of play and play behaviours, and evaluation design skills, including Evaluability Assessments.
Translating academic evidence into meaningful change is a key driver for Paul. He was an invited expert on the most recent UK CMO physical activity guidelines for children and young people. Moreover, he works directly with local authorities and delivery partners to implement systems change for improving outdoor play opportunities in Early years settings. His work has been featured in national and international media and is often invited to speak across national radio.
