Dr Lily FitzGibbon
Lecturer
Lily FitzGibbon is a Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at the University of Stirling whose research examines how children learn, explore, and adapt in uncertain environments. Her work focuses on the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural processes that underpin curiosity, exploration, risk-taking, and learning, with a particular interest in understanding the mechanisms through which outdoor and adventurous play support children's wellbeing.
Using observational, experimental, and longitudinal research methods, Lily investigates how children engage with uncertainty and challenge, and how these experiences shape learning, resilience, and emotional development. She works collaboratively with educators and practitioners to translate research into practical recommendations that inform the design of play environments, educational settings, and policies that support children's healthy development.
